Star jumps jockey and trainer Steven Pateman’s eight-year-old gelding Sir Walter Scott has returned a positive test to prohibited substance cobalt.

The galloper was tested prior to losing his rider in the Great Western Steeplechase at Coleraine on September 24, and Pateman was informed on Tuesday that initial positive findings had been confirmed.

Tatura trainer Belinda Dunn has also received confirmation that her horse Margot’s Boy returned a positive urine test after winning on his home track on September 23.

Racing Analytical Services Limited tested both samples, and found that both horses’ urine contained a concentration greater than 200 micrograms per litre, which is over the allowable threshold.

Racing Victoria Stewards’ investigations into both cases are set to continue.
