NSW trainer Garry McCarney has become the latest trainer banned on cobalt charges after Racing NSW stewards on Wednesday disqualified him for 15 months.
McCarney pleaded guilty to two charges under AR178 of having brought Southern Flight and Head To Toe to Narromine on November 12 last year for the purposes of both horses engaging in a race when a prohibited substance was detected in samples taken from both mares.
Stewards determined that he should be disqualified for 12 months on each charge, but permitted him to serve a 15-month ban.
Head To Toe and Southern Flight, who both scored at Narromine on that day, were disqualified from their wins. McCarney, who is based at Wellington in NSW, can reapply for a trainers’ licence on May 1 next year.
