Caulfield trainer Brendan McCarthy will front the Racing Appeals and Discipline Board after being charged with illegally treating Zedi Knight earlier this month.

Racing Victoria stewards confirmed the two charges on Tuesday, stemming from a race-day stable inspection by the Compliance Assurance Team.

The stewards allege McCarthy administered an unknown substance by way of injection to Zedi Knight on the morning of a race.

Acting on that advice, the horse was withdrawn from the theshark.com.au Handicap over 1100m at Caulfield on Saturday, April 4.

McCarthy has been charged with administering medication to a horse on race day, prior to running in a race, as well as failing to make, keep and retain an accurate record to treatment administered to Zedi Knight.

The charges will be heard before the RAD Board on a date to be fixed.

Meanwhile, jockey Daniel Stackhouse is appealing a careless riding conviction from Kyneton on Monday.

Stackhouse was found guilty of careless riding on Know This in the opening race and suspended by stewards for 10 meetings.

The penalty doesn’t begin until Thursday but a stay of proceedings was not requested. Stackhouse has appealed both the decision and the penalty.

The RAD Board will hear the appeal at 11am on Thursday.
