Goals:Â
- Promote medication research, laboratory advancements and drug testing developments
- Establish national testing standards and best practices for all horse racing testing laboratories
- Further implement the RMTC Laboratory Accreditation Program and External Quality Assurance Program
- Acquire and analyze unknown substances to develop intelligence on new threats to racing integrity
- Educate stakeholders with compliance guidance for existing and new regulations
Accomplishments:
- Tactical Research Program (engaged in identifying emerging threats and rapidly developing and deploying testing methods and enforcement strategies to deter the use of prohibited substances and practices)
- RMTC Laboratory Accreditation Program
- RegVet CE educational program
- Funding $3 million for research  on detection of illicit substances and the control of therapeutic medications
History: The RMTC was established in 2001, an outgrowth of the American Association of Equine Practitioners Racehorse Medication Summit, with the stated goal of advancing uniformity in medication policy for racehorses. The full spectrum of racing organizations is represented on the RMTC Board and policy recommendations reflect consensus from that diverse group.
Organization: The RMTC is incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization with both scientific and educational purposes. It is governed by a board of directors consisting of 23 industry stakeholder groups:
