BloodHorse Staff:

Trainer William E. Morey is scheduled to appear before the Santa Anita Park stewards May 2 after a March 29 incident in which an assistant trainer allegedly administered a substance containing an alkalinizing agent via a dose syringe to two horses entered at Santa Anita that day.

Based on those allegations, the stewards scratched all three horses Morey had entered to run that afternoon at Santa Anita. In an April 17 release, the California Horse Racing Board said those scratches are the only action taken by the regulator to date over the alleged race-day administrations.

Morey, who in 2018 earned his first two graded stakes wins, has not had a starter since March 29, when he had a pair of runners at Golden Gate Fields, including Visitant who won an allowance-optional claiming race.

Morey could not be reached for comment April 17.
