Maund faces stewards investigation over suspected raceday treatment

Cranbourne trainer Ricky Maund will now be the subject of a Racing Victoria stewards investigation after officials ordered the scratching of one of his horses, Uncle Keithy, at Caulfield on Saturday, because they suspected possible raceday treatment.

Chief steward Terry Bailey explained that RV’s compliance assurance team had tendered a report after visiting the Maund’s stables earlier in the day and that “there was some concerns as to whether Uncle Keithy had received raceday treatment.

“Some syringes, some plungers and the residue left over from a mixture was confiscated,” Bailey said. “Mr Maund explained that it was for a horse that wasn’t racing that particular day. Based on further evidence that we sought from our vets we couldn’t be satisfied that Uncle Keithy had been brought here today without receiving treatment, so therefore the horse was withdrawn.

“The investigation will continue. Time will tell when that will take place.”
