Racing NSW stewards have confiscated several substances from trainer Con Karakatsanis’ stable after scratching Howmuchdoyouloveme from a Group Two race at Randwick amid concerns he had received a raceday treatment.

Howmuchdoyouloveme was withdrawn from The Shorts at Randwick after the horse was found to have a lump on his neck when he arrived at the track.

“Members of our investigative and surveillance unit were dispatched to the stable with Mr Karakatsanis and carried out an inspection,” Racing NSW chief steward Marc Van Gestel said.

“A number of substances were seized at the stable and the residence and they will be analysed along with blood and urine samples from the horse.”

Karakatsanis is operating on a stay of proceedings pending an appeal against a four-month disqualification for improper practice.

Stewards determined five horses in his name were being trained by their owner.

Howmuchdoyouloveme was cleared to run in the 2012 Yellowglen Stakes at Flemington despite Victorian stewards finding tubing equipment in the horse’s box.
