Scone trainer Luke Griffith was briefly banned from starting horses after contamination fears following reported positive swabs from horses in his stable to the party drug methamphetamine.

He told News Corp “he was unsure why horses in his care would return ‘small traces’ of the illicit substance”.

Racing NSW chief steward Ray Murrihy confirmed all the horses and staff from Griffith’s stable had been tested. He would not comment on the nature of the inquiries.

Fairfax Media learnt Griffith had taken about six horses to Newcastle on March 7 to be tested along with a couple of starters.

“We stopped racing out of his stable for a short brief period and took bio-security measures and tested his horses and staff,” Murrihy said. “We will not comment on on-going on investigations.”
