The top two finishers of the Aug. 1 Iowa Stallion Stakes have tested positive for banned substances.

The winner, Reach One More, tested positive for having oxymorphone, which is a powerful form of morphine. Runner-up Sharik was found to have Trichloromethiazide, a diuretic that is used to reduce swelling in limbs.

Prairie Meadows’ stewards have disqualified Sharik and fined trainer Tony Rengstorf $500.

Reach One More trainer Dave Anderson has been suspended, pending a hearing on Tuesday..

Oxymorphone is a Class 1 violation, which is for the heaviest infractions in racing’s five-class rating system. The national guidelines call for loss of purse, a fine, and suspending the trainer for one year or more, unless there are mitigating circumstances.

Trichloromethiazide is a Class 3 violation, where the guidelines call for disqualification and fine, but no suspension.

Should Reach One More be disqualified, it would be the first time the top two finishers of a race at Prairie Meadows were taken down for drug positives.

It would mean third-place finisher Karl’s Speed Demon would be the winner and pick up an extra $60,127. Including his Iowa-bred bonus, his earnings from the race would leap from $12,026 to $72,153.

“I don’t want to wish bad on anyone,” said Sandra Rasmussen, who owns Karl’s Speed Demon.
